Our Team
Craftsman Building Fine Homes LLC is a residential general contractor on Bainbridge Island, Washington working on a diverse range of residential projects, including custom homes and remodels of existing homes. We do not specialize in a particular architectural or construction style - each project is as unique as our clients. The people of Craftsman Building are committed to providing quality construction services. We believe in collaborating with architects, designers, and clients to maintain the role of craft in residential construction while incorporating modern, sustainable innovations.

Right now I have two acquaintances going through remodels and new construction build with two other island contractors and, each day, listening to their woes, I am more and more thankful that we worked with John. When I hear them bemoaning their scheduling problems and issues with subs, I think to myself, "We had absolutely none of that," and have sympathy for them (though they should've listened to me and hired Craftsman!! ;))
When we began construction, it ran smoothly and was on schedule from beginning to end. John was organized, communicated clearly and often, and guided us when we needed guidance. He was open to being a partner in our unique project and welcomed our input and ideas. What I didn't know at the time and have come more and more to appreciate is that John was able to assemble a team of subcontractors who were reliable and, most importantly, really respected him and his timetable. That says a lot, I think. I was pleased with every person he brought onto the job and, due to his exacting standards, they were accountable for their work and did a great job.
We were constrained by the arrangement with our bank and had quite a lot of pricing details worked out ahead of beginning construction, so we had very few surprises. John did a lot of legwork to help us get to that point. During construction, the budgeting went as planned and we were pleased with the way John handled it. If there was a change, usually due to our changing opinions, John was able to give us all of the information we needed to make a decision about additional cost.
John was here daily and often. I remember coming up to spend time on our property on the weekends and finding him here tidying and putting things to rights. I often joked that, when construction was over, I hoped that I could take care of the house as well as he did. If you're looking for someone who will truly and genuinely care about your project, John is the man.
