I have nothing but the highest regard and confidence in John and his team. Right now I have two acquaintances going through remodels and new construction build with two other island contractors and, each day, listening to their woes, I am more and more thankful that we worked with John. When I hear them bemoaning their scheduling problems and issues with subs, I think to myself, "We had absolutely none of that," and have sympathy for them (though they should've listened to me and hired Craftsman!! ;))
When we began construction, it ran smoothly and was on schedule from beginning to end. John was organized, communicated clearly and often, and guided us when we needed guidance. He was open to being a partner in our unique project and welcomed our input and ideas. What I didn't know at the time and have come more and more to appreciate is that John was able to assemble a team of sub contractors who were reliable and, most importantly, really respected him and his timetable. That says a lot, I think. I was pleased with every person he brought onto the job and, due to his exacting standards, they were accountable for their work and did a great job.
We were constrained by the arrangement with our bank and had quite a lot of pricing details worked out ahead of beginning construction, so we had very few surprises. John did a lot of legwork to help us get to that point. During construction, the budgeting went as planned and we were pleased with the way John handled it. If there was a change, usually due to our changing opinions, John was able to give us all of the information we needed to make a decision about additional cost.
John was here daily and often. I remember coming up to spend time on our property on the weekends and finding him here tidying and putting things to rights. I often joked that, when construction was over, I hoped that I could take care of the house as well as he did. If you're looking for someone who will truly and genuinely care about your project, John is the man.

It has been our pleasure to work with John Viele and Craftsman Building Fine Homes on 3 projects over the past 10 years — one substantial addition to our home and two significant remodels. John managed all of the projects with exceptional attention to details, high expectations relative to quality and a commitment to timely and thorough communication. Unexpected issues are inevitably encountered with remodels and additions and John was excellent in promptly communicating the issue to us and calmly working with us to determine practical and cost-effective solutions. John and Craftsman Building associate themselves with subcontractors that share their commitment to high quality construction. The true measure of our satisfaction is demonstrated by our retention of John and Craftsman Building for repeated projects.

Craftsman Building Fine Home’s service and professionalism for our projects have been extraordinary. John always made sure we were comfortable and knew what was happening every day. He communicated well about what we could expect going forward on each project. John leads his team with a calm and steady professionalism that gave us confidence in his leadership and his team. There were no surprises with the timeline or the bill. The finished jobs exceeded our expectations. Every detail was perfect. We would happily use them for other projects and would highly recommend them to friends and family without hesitation.
We have used Craftsman Building several times with excellent results. (One of the projects was for an extensive remodel of over 50% of our house.) John Viele was the project manager/superintendent on all of our work and he is a delight to work with. He does a great job of managing their top rated subcontractors and was always very good at communicating the status of the work with us to avoid any surprises. His craft people are top notch, very productive, friendly and easy to have around. Every aspect of our projects with John and Craftsman Building was outstanding and we would not hesitate to use him for any future projects. They deliver top quality value for the cost.
